What Are the Differences Between Domain Names and Web Hosting?

What is right choice :-Unlimited hosting plan or limited plan ?

The web hosting industry is bustling with activity. There are new companies coming up and old loss making companies selling out. Competition is very hard. Some web hosting companies such as India Access are still selling web hosting at outrageously high prices. For example, India Access is selling merely 250MB of web space at $ 136 per year. At the same time, other companies such as Blue Host sells unlimited hosting for $ 47 per year. There is such a huge difference in price, and such a huge difference in the amount of space offered. Why is this so?

Are you intending to upload your WordPress blog, and create a quick website using WordPress? You need to understand what you need and why you are buying hosting from a particular company. If you are intending to use WordPress, you probably don’t need more than 100MB of space. Why buy unlimited space then? The idea is, not that you can use hundreds of GB of space, but you can be rid of the mental worry of planning the amount of space you need. You can worry more about developing the website, as you really need to.

On the other hand, if you want merely a small 10-15 page website, you need not pay for “unlimited”. If you can make a rudimentary estimate of the number of pages you need, and you can significantly save even more. Siteground offers 10GB space at $ 3.95 per month, and at the same time BlueHost offers unlimited hosting at $ 3.95 per month – why would you chose to take only 10GB? I will explain now that, you are better off, by choosing the 10GB one.

When you pay for a certain determined amount of space, you get much more bang for your buck. This means that you are able to use more resources in terms of CPU processes, RAM allocation and simultaneous processes. You will almost never find these details on the website of any web hosting company. This is a well guarded secret of the industry. Why do they not tell you this? They need to constantly change those things so that all the users can use the servers. Imagine this, there are 200 users on one server – one user is using a ton of CPU in a very complex php script, but all the other users have only HTML pages. At this point, you can afford to allow that one user to use the excessive CPU usage that he needs. But now imagine that all the users need a ton of CPU? What do you do now? You have advertised unlimited space, and packed the customers on one server like a pack of sardines. The only option is to start restricting the CPU and add more hard drive space to the server, or buy a new server. Buying a new server is very expensive and would affect your bottom-line. So, what do you do? You go ahead and restrict the CPU. Why would this not happen if you had a restricted space account? This would not happen, because almost always, all users having restricted space account would be on one server, and all users having unlimited accounts would be on another server. The total users having limited space accounts are generally relatively low – which gives you a greater share of the overall resources.

Don’t fall for tricks and fancy advertisements. Be smart and estimate your requirements. Most of the users who take unlimited accounts, think they are getting a good deal by doing so. But that is not always the case. Estimate your needs and buy smart. There are hundreds of web hosting companies out there. Every one of them claims to have the best prices and the best service. You have looked for information on the internet that may clue you into how to go about choosing. You may have even been lucky enough to come across an article from someone commenting on a great experience with their hosting company.

Choosing a web hosting company can be intimidating. You have to choose between how much storage space you need, how many email boxes you can set up, how many FTP accounts you can have, SQL databases, control panels, sub-domains, and the list goes on. Each company usually offers different levels of all these to meet your needs and then multiply that times all the different companies out there. That is a lot of research to do. Some companies offer free website building programs as part of your package. Some even offer programs where you tell them what you want and they will build it for you. Most companies will offer your free domains names as well. The more your monthly package is then the more free names you get, usually.

Site Ground Hosting Plan

aplus.net. They seemed to offer the most for the money. Well, one thing that did not come with the package was customer service. Their service is awful. I bought a package with a sizeable amount of storage space .I have well over 100 pages to my site so far, I have pictures, video, and multiple articles. I have not even used 1% of my storage space yet. I do plan other sites in the future but I do not think I will ever use all the space. I have 15,000 MB of space and I have used 18.40 MB’s to date.

My site has a handful of web hosting sites on it. I have tried to add ones that I have heard good things about, since signing up with aplus.net. However, since I have not spoken with their service people I really cannot say for certain if they are any better than aplus.net. . I am not recommending any company over the other, nor am I recommending any of these sites over the others on the internet.

It could be quite hard to find the best web hosting reseller because of the numerous hosting packages and providers in the market. One good place that you could start from would be to ask business associates who make use of web hosting resellers and ask them if their companies are able to effectively fulfill their requirements. You could also go to opinion websites, which could give you some useful reviews on the best, as well as the most affordable web hosting resellers, which are on the market.

Here are the four things that you would need to consider as you look for the perfect web hosting reseller.

Make sure that the web hosting reseller you are considering offer affordable rates. Check if they also offer an added discount or coupon before you sign up. Do not just select the least expensive one, as that might not be able to provide you with an adequate amount of space or they might be experiencing a lot of technical issues, which you cannot afford to have. There are also some resellers that give a money-back guarantee.

Storage Capacity

This would be the amount of space that you would have for your site. If you are considering an affordable web hosting reseller, check if they can give you the amount of storage space that you need.

Bandwidth or Data Transfer

The bandwidth or data transfer usage would refer to the amount of data, which is sent or received from the hosting account that you have on the web server for a specified time frame. This would generally be measured monthly. You would need more bandwidth if you are expecting a lot of visitors on your website.

Website Speed

This would be essential as it would determine how fast your website would be able to load. When browsers go online, they usually expect that a website they are visiting would load quickly. A lot of times, people leave a website for the reason that it just took too long to show.

Godaddy.com – they offer a very basic hosting plan for $3.95 a month. This is one of the cheapest I have come across but I do not see that there are any of the extras available if you need them, which differs from the first site we looked at. Their most expensive plan is only $19.95 but if you compared it to the first site I believe it would be comparable to their package close to that price. There is no mention of any site building tools even being available. So, you either need to find a free site builder on-line (which are usually pretty limited) or you have to buy your own. http://www.GoDaddy.com

Bluehost.com – from a quick look at this site it appears they only offer one program. It may be that you can customize it during the sign-up process but I wasn’t about to sign-up to find out. The home page on their site says $6.95 per month

There many more effective tools out there to get yourself a high ranking in the search engines.

wordpress hosting:

What is WordPress

WordPress is the most popular blogging software in use on the web. It is in fact, one of the most used Content Management System CMS) online

WordPress is written in a programming language called PHP which accesses the content from a MySQL database. As it is continually extracting packets of information from the server and elsewhere, WordPress can need more memory than a straightforward static HTML site.

WordPress and Hosting

To set up a WordPress site you need two things: a domain name and a web host.

Google rates speed very highly these days in its ranking algorithm, so it’s essential you to pick a good host to make the most from your WordPress site.

You can find that certain plugins won’t work due to memory issues, servers can fail due to the host’s incompetence often causing a loss in Google rankings and sometimes WordPress’s features won’t work due to a poor host setup – so choosing a host not something to be hurried!

Most website owners when they start out will opt for a shared hosting package. This is the cheapest hosting option where your website will be sharing a server with hundreds or, sometimes, thousands of other sites.

Whereas a dedicated hosting service is one where you lease an entire server which isn’t shared with anyone.

What is VPS?

A virtual private server provides the features of a dedicated server on a machine that is shared by other customers. This is done by partitioning a physical computer into multiple servers such each with capabilities of running its own fully-fledged operating system, and each can be independently rebooted.

Customers therefore get hosting services that are similar to that of dedicated Web hosting without sacrificing performance and for a much reduced price.

Another benefit of VPS servers is scalability. Extra resources (RAM, other configurations) can be added at later dates as the website grows.

Which type of VPS host to use for WordPress?

The first thing to advise is to go for a Linux host over Windows as Linux takes much less resources and WordPress just runs better on it.

Managed VPS or Unmanaged VPS hosting?

You need to decide between purchasing a managed VPS or an unmanaged VPS hosting account.

With an unmanaged VPS site you are on your own. You control it. You install and run whatever software you want to run on it.

If you aren’t comfortable doing this then unmanaged hosting is obviously not for you. However, it does have the benefit of being slightly cheaper as hosts do not have to spend so much on support. You may have to pay extra for cPanel licenses, etc.

Managed VPS services include maintenance, monitoring, and repairs at a fixed cost – they also provide varying amounts of support.

Standard VPS hosting or VPS hosting in the cloud?

Cloud computing is generally run on a cluster of servers whereas standard VPS hosting will put your site on only one computer with backups.

With VPS cloud hosting your site will come back online immediately if any hardware fails.

Standard VPS can only offers a certain amount of RAM and CPU at any one time so you can still suffer from outages if your site become extremely busy. However, Cloud VPS can dynamically assign resources as your server needs them.

How to choose a new VPS host

This depends on the amount of traffic and the needs you have. You need to compare the hosts by price and the following criteria:

RAM: VPS servers are advertised with RAM values just like computers are in a computer store. Host are rather unforthcoming when you ask them how much RAM you need but I would say 500MB RAM would be satisfactory for a WordPress site that doesn’t get much more than 500 visitors a day.

CPU: The CPU (central processing unit) of the host is exactly the same as the CPU of your desktop or laptop computer. It is the central unit in a computer containing logic circuitry to perform instructions from the applications. If you wish it may be possible to buy a plan with more than one 1GB CPU for extra speed.

Band Width and Disc Space: VPS packages are sometimes sold with a finite band width and disc space. Calculate the bandwidth you site will need by calculating Average Page Views x Average Page Size x Average Daily Visitors. If you are just starting out it won’t be necessary to do this. Disc Space is the amount of Gigabytes of information you are allowed to put on the server. Ordinary websites don’t add up to much space but if you are using the server for file storage you need to take this into account.

Server Software: you may be used to certain server software, such as cPanel and Plesk in order to maintain your site. Some hosts use their own software which may be difficult to learn.

Quality of Support: Some companies have 24/7 support. It may be important to be able to get answer quickly if your VPS server stops working. Company Reputation: Google the company you want to use and see what people are saying about them. WordPress recommends a few hosts. Also, have a look and see if hosts have a good and functioning forum, this can be extra useful.

WordPress is one of the most common CMSs (Content Management Systems) so hosts should generally be good with it. But this is not always the case.

You should pick a host that knows how to host it and has shown that for a while already.

blue host hosting

Here’s a short list of the Bluehost features

Unlimited number of websites for $ 6.95 per month.

You can easily register your domain names within Bluehost. It’s a one-stop-shop.

Outstanding technical support and customer service via telephone, live chat and e-mail. Part I of my Bluehost reviews series tells you about 2 instances where Bluehost’s service really shone and made me a committed loyal customer.

Courtesy website backups (this saved me an entire 60 page website). This feature alone could save you an incredible amout of grief (as it did me).

Unlimited number of e-mail accounts per domain name. Never lack an e-mail account again. It takes about 30 seconds to set up an e-mail account.

Unlimited hosting space (build websites as big as you like .).

Secure options such as SSL for e-commerce sites.

E-mail Accounts for Your Domain Names are Included

You can easily set up e-mail accounts for every domain name you have with Bluehost. I set up an info@mydomain.com for all my sites. You can create unlimited e-mail accounts for every domain you have with Bluehost. There is no question that having an e-mail account or accounts affiliated with your website as being a more professional presence than a Gmail or Hotmail e-mail account. Take the 30 seconds required to set up an e-mail account with your domain name

Bluehost Negatives

They don’t inform you of any system upgrades / updates that will result in websites being down temporarily. I called them about this and their response was they used to send out notices, but they would get so many calls about the upcoming operation that it was more trouble for all concerned than it was worth. Fortunately such upgrades / updates are so infrequent that it’s not really an issue with me.

Their domain name availability search screen isn’t very user-friendly. I actually search for domain availability at GoDaddy because it’s a great interface. Once I find the domain name I want, I register it with Bluehost.

site ground

SiteGround impressed us with near-flawless uptime and their guarantee of free service if uptime dips below 99.9%. Their loading speeds are quite good, even if they’re not the fastest out there, and they offer a variety of apps to make both beginners and advanced users happy.

CDN Service

Content Delivery Network, in short, called as CDN. In CDN system, servers get installed in different data centers throughout the internet. In simple words, CDN service depends on multiple data centers. It gives reach to your client via the nearest node. CDN service increases the speed of the website in a great way.

Cloud Hosting

On the other hand, synchronized communication system connects many numbers of servers and forms the basis of cloud hosting. Multiple servers support website data and hence any single server goes down might not affect your site connectivity

CDN Vs Common Hosting

In this section let me compare standard website hosting services with CDN and help you further.

Web hosting contributes to host your website on a server. It allows clients to access the same on the internet. CDN speeds up the access to the resources on your site.

Conventional web hosting delivers the complete content to the user. But when the content spreads across the globe, the user must wait for the data retrieval from the web server. It takes time, based on the location of the web server. But, CDN retrieves your content from anywhere in the world through their local servers and deliver quickly.

A single server used on regular web hosting services. CDN means servers present globally and delivers your content from different host servers.

Summing up, standard hosting has become outmoded due to the increase in internet traffic. CDN Services offers quick and prompt content delivery.

Cloud Vs Common Web Hosting

I am sure by now you got some idea. Let me pen down my last piece of thought stating the difference between the cloud and general hosting services.

Traditional Hosting

Conventional hosting appears in two different forms, shared and dedicated. The concept behind dedicated hosting revolves around this way; the client makes payment for the entire resource and buys the server/s from the service provider. The client manages a devoted storage space with CPU and RAM. The client gets the authority to control the server storage.

Shared hosting, as the name implies the customer pays for storage space for a single server. Other websites may share that server. Shared hosting seems to reduce the financial burden on the client.

Needless to convey the drawback including spikes in traffic, performance issues due to shared servers, security breaches, etc. When the dependency goes on a single server, simple issues might put the server down across sites.

Cloud Hosting

The load gets balanced across a group of different servers in cloud hosting. The data gets mapped across servers and hence even if one server goes down the functioning of the site remains the same and not gets affected as the other server provides the data. Cloud hosting stands tall due to its elasticity and resilience.

Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), offered as a package by the cloud hosting service providers. They take care of the entire maintenance task. Just pay for the resource you utilize.

No need to spend on the infrastructure. The client just needs to pay for the resource they consume. Cloud hosting scalability surpasses all other hosting services.

If you look at traffic, cost, technology, services and infrastructure just go for cloud hosting. Cost may not be as good as the regular hosting but worth the advancement. The pay for use feature still keeps an account of your cost.

But, if you know your site’s traffic, looking for convenience, and very particular about price, then select shared hosting. You can always purchase an additional server for storage space.

Trust I made it clear, between common hosting, cloud, and CDN. Decide on your requirement and select the best one that suits your need.
